digitalBill writes "MacCenter, South Florida's oldest Apple Specialist Dealer, has announced that it will host the first-ever virtual book signing in South Florida, on Saturday May 22nd, as part of their day-long "Meet and Geek" event.

The virtual book signing will allow Nitrozac and Snaggy, authors of "The Best of The Joy of Tech" published by O'Reilly Press, to appear at the MacCenter store from their home in British Columbia, by the use of Apple's iChatAV software and iSight camera to provide live video conferencing. The authors will be able to interact with fans, and sign books electronically using digital ink.

Also appearing virtually will be actor and author Wil Wheaton (Star Trek: The Next Generation's Wesley Crusher). Wil will perform readings from his first book, "Dancing Barefoot", along with other selections of his writings, and sign books electronically as well.

Your hosts and "Wizards of Technology" Bill "Digital Bill" Douthett and Marc "MisterMarc" Asturias will preside over the other events planned for the Meet and Geek event that include:

  • Demonstrations of moblogging featuring Chris Hoar of Textamerica.com
  • Weblogging with movabletype and other publishing tools
  • Seminars on Apple Technology
  • Music demonstrations featuring GarageBand and iTunes
  • Giveaways
  • Local personalities... and much more!

iSight and iChat technology will be used and demonstrated via guest appearances throughout this event. The virtual book signings and appearances will be held at various times throughout the afternoon.
