RSS Update

RSS feeds have evolved from simple news aggregation to become the glue that holds a web full of media together. A lot has changed since RSS came on the scene. It may be time to update your RSS applications.

Vienna

If you are looking for a fast, straight-forward reader with a native feel, take a trip to Vienna. This reader is lightweight, and integrates with the dock and growl to notify you of updates.

Vienna also supports advanced features like tabs and smart folders.

NetNewsWire Lite

The free version of the long-time favorite feed reader. Rich with features, the beta version of the 2.1 release includes NewsGator synchronization. This new feature allows you to keep your read feeds in sync on multiple computers.

RSSOwl portable

RSSOwl is an excellent and very flexible feed reader. The cross-platform app features integrated feed search and a ton of viewing options. What's more, this specially packaged version of RSSOwl lives and runs happily on your USB drive or iPod so you can take your subscriptions with you.

Photocast Viewer

This specialized reader is built to track photocasts built for photo-enabled iPods, but also supports Flickr photo streams.

The interface is rough (and pictures small), but the convenience of viewing these photocasts is handy.

FeedMe

Enough with viewing feeds, its time to create one. This straight-forward application makes it easy to create your own custom feeds.

The tool supports photo embedding, but not podcast building (that would be nice). It is a spiffy way to build manual RSS feeds without editing XML.
