On the Run

Portable versions of Mozilla applications are not new - for Windows. Neither is Google Earth, but these beauties have made it to the Mac. Before you head out, these downloads are a must.

Portable Firefox

Take your profile, including bookmarks and even extensions with you on a USB drive. For about 30 megs of space you can use Firefox 1.5 tweaked to your taste on any Mac with OS X. And, just in case the worst happens, you can load a portable Firefox for PC too.

Portable Thunderbird

I know, you could see this coming. You can take Thunderbird - with all your address book, accounts and email with you as well. Portable Thunderbird takes up only 33 megs of space, and like Portible Firefox is optimized for use on a removable drive.

Google Earth Mac

We knew this was coming, but it is here - at least for Tiger users. Google Earth, with all its power-browsing features lets you view animated, detailed satellite imagery of the world. Requires Tiger.

Pando

Pando is a new, peer-to-peer file transferring application. It allows you to send files of tremendous size (during the beta up to 1 Gigabyte) to other users, online of offline. It has a spiffy interface and is a sinch to use. Sign up for the beta to access the Mac client download.

Zohowriter

We've taken a look at Writely for online word processing. And good ideas are contagious, so now we’ve got Zoho Writer, which provides Word file import/export, email in/out, collaboration and conversion capabilities. Give it a try, you can skin it too.

You’re ready to hit the road will all kinds of software to keep you working your way on the road. Now get out of here.
